McElhanney has an opportunity for a Survey Party Chief to join our team that is willing to work out of Edmonton, AB (or area) on shift work. We currently have long-term clients that offer a 14-7, 14-14, or similar shifts at Oilsands sites that are north of Edmonton. Travel to these sites is primarily drive-in-drive-out, allowing us flxibility in our travel arrangements. This is a long-term position with a team that delivers a broad range of services while developing strong relationships with our clients. McElhanney has industry leading capabilities in Surveying, Scanning, RPAS/drone operations, Bathymetry, LiDAR and remote sensing, line locating and GIS, offering the opportunity to expand knowledge and contribute to improving and implementing processes.   • A financial incentive program has been developed to reward staff willing to work remote shifts, details of this program will be discussed with interested applicants and are project dependent.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and pre-site access testing are required as per client requirements.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Field completion of surveys in support of projects including topographic surveys, layout of alignments, grades and features; high order control networks, deformation monitoring, quantity measurements, drone/RPAS flights, legal surveys, oil field surveys
  • Work with the latest generation of conventional instruments as well as terrestrial scanners and RPAS/drone units. We strive to provide clients with the highest levels of service and commit to support field staff with the resources required.
  • Work with Project Manager to understand project objectives, budgets, goals, and schedules.
  • Expand upon, or develop, processing and calculating skills while in the field to gain a broader knowledge of survey operations.
  • McElhanney operates a fleet of over 50 RPAS/drones with a program to continually develop staff and processes. We provide the necessary training to qualify for Advanced Certification.
  • Where appropriate work semi autonomously to manage surveying tasks, fully supported by a project team.
  • Ensure implementation of quality assurance, safety, and policy compliance.

What You Will Bring:

  • Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or relatable subject with at least 2 years of previous experience in a similar role. A higher level of experience in surveying, construction or engineering will be considered if no diploma is held.
  • Competence in the fundamentals and use of Total stations is an asset.
  • A Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Physical ability to work on varied terrain, potentially over long days, and the ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MicroSurvey and Trimble Business Centre is an asset.
  • Desire to work on remote projects.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license required
